I got some good lovin' today!

A long sweet hug from my daughter
A tender kiss from my husband this morning
Yummy chinese food with good friends
A phone call from a friend in Finland
Snuggles from the sweetie-kitty

For a "hump day", it wasn't too bad!

If you find yourself at the crossroads of insomnia and insanity, this is the place to channel those demons that keep you sleepless. Vivid pictures, poetry, ruminations, and confessions from the nether hours between dusk and dawn. Originally formed to celebrate the city at night, there's a strong urban theme.

Self-described as "a little community with a lot of rage," you can soak up impassioned vibes and read blistering exposes detailing sexist attitudes in the news, pop culture, and science! A must-join community if you are, or love, a feminist. (NB: the topic of whether a "man" can be a feminist is outside the scope of this spotlight, but will probably wind up on the Writer's Block.)

another year, another list of resolutions

Ah, last year. How optimistic, how innocent we all were!

Last year, this year, read on... )

At the very least, 2010 is off to a good start--we had some friends over (basically my writing group, plus one) for a games night, which basically turned into eight straight hours of Rock Band. I like singing the best, but drums and bass are also fun! The only thing I didn't do at all was play guitar. We had a great time, and ended (at four a.m.) with an encore of "Don't Stop Believing." So much fun.

Happy new year, my Livejournal friends!

I think I'm still pretty much alive.

I think.

I'm gonna be in a show next month. It's not a big deal, but I'm excited because a) I never show anything, b) I am always complaining about the lack of print work in shows curated by my fellow students c) it's all about reading/text/learning, which is super cute and fun and awesome because books = the best.

So, here are some prints of books. Please excuse the second print; it is easily the worst thing I made this semester- radio projects included.

Turning to photography as a creative outlet during a valiant fight with breast cancer at age 34, [info]renaissance10 survived and set up a photo contest to help raise funds for the Lavender Trust, a nonprofit that provides information and support to younger women with breast cancer. In the first two years, the competition brought in over £65,000 (that's $107,260.73 U.S.!), with entries from 130 countries last year. Renaissance10 recently joined LiveJournal to meet other passionate photographers and find supportive friends.

Merry Christmas!

After a good night of rest, I'm feeling mostly human again. Michael asked me last night if I was being quiet, and all I could do was nod "yes". I was out of nerves and out of words. I went to bed at 10ish (when K went down) and Michael took care of the rest of the preparations - and he did a daggone fine job!

Santa was incredibly good to us this year. Our family received a gift of a Wii including MarioKart (Katie's favorite game)... and I got a Kindle. I read really quickly so when I travel, I carry 3-4 books - so this will be nice space-wise. Michael also got me the whole set of Michael Palin travelogues and I drooleth over them :) He's my 3rd favorite Michael! (Dad and hubby come first - not particularly in that order, I won't get into THAT competition) ;)

But mostly today, I'm thankful for the loved ones around us (near and in spirit). Your friendship and love has carried us this past week or so and I love you all so much. *hug hug hug hug*

Have a blessed day and may tomorrow not be spent in the returns line at the store :)
